Blog Post #5: Single Element Mineral
For this blog post, I had limited access and was really struggling to figure out what to photograph, but then I remembered that a very common stone for wedding rings is a Diamond.

Seen above is my mother's wedding ring (which was later made into a necklace hence the stone dangling in the center and the loop at the top) Diamonds are made up of pure carbon. Carbon has many different uses, but it is particularly important as all living things are made out of carbon.
Some common uses include ink, paint, pencil graphite, and carbon dating.

Carbon can be found stored in rocks or sediment, as well as cycles through reservoirs, or sinks. Carbon can be extracted through mining. Depending on the method of extraction this can be quite harmful to the environment and produce greenhouse gasses.
