Blog Post #10: Rock Collecting at Agate Beach
Back in May of 2021, My grandparents took me on a trip to Trinidad right before my high school graduation. A highlight of that trip for me was going to Agate beach. The entire beach is made up of rocks, so you can lay on the beach all day and find all types of cool and interesting rocks or minerals.

My grandma really liked the idea of finding some pieces of agate, so that was partially our goal. We spent hours just looking through the rocks and relaxing. As we collected them we would store them in a little baggie, or sometimes a sock.

When we got back to the campsite, we decided to organize the rocks. The first way we organized them was by color and texture. I, unfortunately, do not have pictures of that. We did that so we could see if we did get any agate pieces and to guess what other rocks might be. I am sure I would be much better at it now, having learned new skills for identifying types of rocks.

The second way we organized the rocks was by size. My grandma and I thought it would be fun to create a pattern, so we started making a spiral. This was a very fun process and almost felt like a mindfulness puzzle.

I felt this related to the class because what my grandma and I were doing was something like identifying rocks, however, we were pretty uninformed on how to do so. I think in the end we were able to find a few agate pieces, but my grandma did not want to lose them so they were not included in the spiral
(they had their own special baggy)
