 Blog Post #6: Man-Made Topography

My grandparents live up some mountains and on a ranch, this means there has been a lot done to the natural topography in order for people to live there. One example of this is their neighbor's driveway.

The ridge here used to connect, I actually remember when it did as I grew up on this ranch, but when the driveway was put in it was cut in half. From what I remember this whole job didn't take too long to complete and was completely changed within a matter of weeks or months. They put in this driveway in order to store multiple cars in their "barn". I am sure this is a permanent change and that it will not be reconnected anytime soon.

It is a dark grey-ish black color with white streaks throughout it. Since I live on campus, I decided to find my rock here. I found this rock in a flower bed area outside Philips Hall. There was a wide variety of other rocks around where I found this one, most likely because it is a mix of rocks meant for landscaping.
